Certified Health Coach Answers Your Questions About Fasting

Well, we made it. 2020 is officially coming to an end (finally!). And as we reflect on the adversity faced this past year, it’s safe to say that many of us aren’t coming out of it feeling our best.

But, tis’ the season of moving forward and making positive changes. Whether that be a promise to cook more healthy meals at home, a new years resolution to actually use that new gym membership, or dedicating 2021 as the year you meet your wellness goals- there’s truly no better fresh start than undergoing a healthy fast.

We’ve been hearing your questions about fasting for quite some time, so we decided to sit down with Clean Living co-founder and Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, Dean Henry, to answer all your questions about fasting so you have the tools you need to start the new year off with a bang!

Q: What is fasting?

A Fast, or “cleanse” as it’s sometimes referred to as, is when you go through some sort of protocol to rid your body of harmful chemicals and toxins. In the process, you can find your body stabilizing blood sugar levels, tackling digestive issues, and overall resetting your gut, and in turn, your immune system.

And the absolute healthiest way to undergo a fast is with a quality Organic Bone Broth.

Q: Why do people do it?

There are a ton of reasons why one might undergo a fasting protocol. Typically, the goal is to shed a couple pounds, but what many people don’t know is that when done correctly, a healthy fasting protocol can not only aid weight loss, but also help reset your gut and in turn, your  immune system.

Q: Can fasting be unhealthy?

Sure, fasting can be unhealthy if it isn’t done correctly. At the Clean Living Company, we don’t endorse any diet protocols that push toward extreme removal of any macro nutrients. Our bodies need nutrients, vitamins and minerals to survive. That’s why we recommend fasting or semi-fasting with Organic Bone Broth.

Q: What’s the difference between intermittent fasting and semi-fasting?

Intermittent fasting is a time restricted diet protocol that consists of long breaks in between meals anywhere from 12-24 hours.

Semi-fasting usually means you can consume a very low number of calories, usually in the form of liquids.

Q: Who should do a fast?

People often wonder who should go through a fasting protocol, and the answer is that everyone can benefit from this.

From shampoos, cleaning products, the food we eat, and the air we breathe, we are all constantly exposed to harmful toxins and chemicals that take a toll on our health and affect the way we feel in our everyday life. By nurturing your gut with bone broth, you’re helping your body get rid of these health-hindering free-radicals.

Q: When is the best time to do a fast?

Really, anytime is a good time to do a fast.  But, many people enjoy them before or after a vacation to shed some extra weight, or at the beginning of a new year for a fresh start.

So, whether you’re wanting to treat digestive issues such as leaky gut, start a new diet, rebuild your immune system during flu season, or maybe you just want a fresh start after a long weekend or holiday of trying new foods you normally wouldn’t be eating- a bone broth fasting regimen is a fantastic way to clear your body of all the bad stuff and reset your system.

Q: What’s the best way to do a fast?

As mentioned, there’s no healthier way to cleanse your body than with a premium-quality, Organic Bone Broth. This is because Bone Broth is high in so many nutrients that our bodies are missing out on, and even more so when undergoing a fast.

Even more so, many notice that after completing a fast, they have lost muscle mass rather than fat. But the great thing about fasting with broth is that it’s so rich in amino acids and protein, that it will boost your metabolism - allowing you to shed fat, while keeping the muscle.

In addition, bone broth contains potassium, which helps balance sodium levels while flushing waste and toxins from the body.

Some of the benefits of a healthy bone broth cleanse include:

  • Improved metabolism & fat loss
  • Boosted immune system
  • Improved digestive issues
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Gut, liver & colon detoxification

Q: How do you recommend going about a fast?

At the Clean Living Company, we have created two effective and successful fasting protocols.

21 Day Challenge semi-fasting protocol

Doing the Clean Living 21 Day Challenge is simple! We provide you with 27 pouches of locally made fresh, never frozen Organic bone broth right to your door.

This 21-day protocol consists of semi-fasting combined with an increased daily consumption of bone broth. The first 5 days you will follow a low carb, elimination diet, where we provide a guide on foods you should eliminate. During this 5-day period, you drink two-to-three cups of bone broth a day, and on fasting days, drink four-to-six cups.

This fasting program is different from others because it keeps you nice and full throughout the day and helps you shed fat, rather than muscle!

This is definitely where we’ve seen the most positive results from our customers.

3 Day Detox

For those who don’t yet wish to commit to the full 21 days, we also offer a 3 Day Detox protocol. The difference here is that this is a fast, not a semi fast, meaning for 3 full days, you will consume only the broth.

At the Clean Living Company, we strive to bring you all the tools you need to make 2021 the year you’re at your healthiest. Let’s start this one off strong!
